Our friends at Couchbase held their Connect Conference in San Francisco early this week, which, simply stated by VP of Business Development, Rod Hamlin, was a great success.
Just back to New York, Thumbtack VP & Head of Sales, Mark Leibowitz had this to say:
“The stronger each NoSQL vendor’s product line and business team is, the better we can serve our own customers. With the turnout, enthusiasm, and strong sense of mission at Connect, it’s evident that Couchbase is rapidly moving in a powerful direction. Our whole team here at Thumbtack is excited to help the fast-growing population of Couchbase customers get up and running and dramatically improve their data system performance — this way our customers can focus more of their own energy on the user experiences which drive their business’s success.”
During the Conference, Couchbase Server 3.0 was announced. Our Senior Solutions Architect in NY, Anton Yazovskiy, is particularly interested in the introduction of the Database Change Protocol (DCP) which will make XDCR, views, and replication even faster. Anton and our Server team are looking forward to testing how it works with different data sets and workloads (we’ll report back!). Anton’s also going to spend some time reviewing the memory consumption tuning feature which could make Couchbase a more interesting contender for large data set processing.
As part of recent research into integrating NoSQL technologies into classic stack systems, our Server team, led by Alexander Samolov, has built two JPA Connectors for using Couchbase as L2 Cache. Alexander has posted these open-source projects on github, Hibernate-Couchbase Connector – (Beta version) and Eclipselink – Couchbase Connector (POC version).
As Thumbtack Technology itself continues to grow at leaps and bounds (63% growth over last 12 months, more news to come!), we will be deepening our relationships with all kinds of partners from NoSQL vendors, hardware, cloud, and analytics companies so that no matter what business problem or use case our customers face, we have the resources and best minds of the business at the ready.
Kudos to Couchbase on a great Conference!
